Lake Below, Mountains Above

Lake Elsinore wraps around a lake of about 3,000 acres, the largest natural freshwater lake in Southern California, and that setting shapes the tree service work in town. Near the shore, trees deal with wet-and-dry swings and soft ground. On the west side, the Elsinore Mountains, part of the Santa Ana range, bring brush, slopes and wildfire exposure up close to homes. We handle both ends.

Trees near the shoreline

The lake has a long record of highs and lows. It flooded homes and businesses after more than a week of heavy rain in 1980 and went dry in the mid-1930s and through much of the 1950s. Trees growing near water and in low ground can develop shallow roots, and saturated soil after storms makes them easier to tip. Look for leaning, cracked soil at the base or exposed roots. If you see any of those, have the tree checked before the next storm.

After a storm

When a limb or a whole tree comes down on a roof, fence or driveway, call us and tell us what is under it. We take care with what is on the ground, cutting the weight off the structure in a controlled order, then cleaning up. If a line is involved, call the utility first and keep everyone clear.

Fire clearance on the west side

The Holy Fire in August 2018 burned more than 23,000 acres in the Santa Ana Mountains and prompted evacuations in Lake Elsinore neighborhoods. Homes near the foothills need defensible space: dead material removed, tree limbs raised at least six feet, branches kept 10 feet from chimneys and grass held to four inches. Riverside County Fire says homes in a very high fire hazard severity zone need 100 feet of defensible space.

Routine trimming

Away from the edges, most Lake Elsinore yards need ordinary care: deadwood removal, roof clearance, thinning and palm cleanup. Regular trimming in the cooler months keeps trees ready for summer heat and Santa Ana winds.

Choosing the right season

Cooler months are usually the best time for heavy pruning in Lake Elsinore, while the trees are under less heat stress. Spring brings nesting birds, so we look for active nests before major cuts. Fire clearance is a different case: it should be finished before grass dries out in late spring, so plan that work early in the year.

Removals and stumps

For trees that are dead, failing or too large for the space, we remove them in sections and grind the stumps so you can replant.

Lake Elsinore Questions

How do I know if a tree near the lake is unstable?

Warning signs include a new lean, soil heaving or cracking at the base, exposed or broken roots, and dead sections of canopy. Any of these is worth a closer look, especially before a storm.

Do you clear brush on hillside lots?

Yes. We cut brush and grass, thin shrubs, limb up trees and remove dead plants, working by hand where slopes are too steep for machines.

Can you come after a tree falls on my house?

Yes. Call and describe what happened. We schedule emergency work as quickly as conditions and crews allow, and we start by taking the weight off the structure safely.
